Despacito is a hit song from Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi with Daddy Yankee was released in the year 2017. It became the number streamed song at the period within the space of six months. The combination of reggaeton and pop music has not only brought an interest to this genre but as well to Latin music in general. The Billboard Top 100 had four songs mostly in Spanish by 2016 compared to two in 2015. However, during the heights of the Despacito's popularity in 2017 there were 19 mostly Spanish tracks that made the top 100. Then in 2020 the number was 41. Justin Bieber re-mixed Despacito with a Spanish-language version in 2017. In the year following, the most well-known artists began collaborating with reggaeton acts. Drake teamed with Bad Bunny for the production of MIA (2018), while Madonna collaborated on Medellin together with Maluma (2019). In the year 2020, some Reggaeton artists were complaining about the trend of the genre towards the mainstream. But a newer generation like Rauw Alejandro was keen to maintain the development. It was often associated with electronic dance, as well as other forms.
